Fight Club
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 7.28 $An underground classic since its first publication in 1996, Fight Club is now recognized as one of the most original and provocative novels published in this decade. Chuck Palahniuk's darkly funny first novel tells the story of a godforsaken young man who discovers that his rage at living in a world filled with failure and lies cannot be pacified by an empty consumer culture. Relief for him and his disenfranchised peers comes in the form of secret after-hours boxing matches held in the basements of bars. Fight Club is the brainchild of Tyler Durden, who thinks he has found a way for himself and his friends to live beyond their confining and stultifying lives. But in Tyler's world there are no rules, no limits, no brakes.

Fight Club
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 74.32 $What makes a man a man? That's a question that most likely doesn't bother photographer Gaz too much. His models can easily convince with hard muscles and the look of a fighter. Strong and hunky they are posing in front of the camera, but Gaz always remains in the role of the wild animal tamer: He's approaching to his models in a respectful but authoritative way; he puts the focus on them but he's still the one who's in control. And yet, on the other hand, he always keeps in mind that these tigers can turn into wild beasts again any second. Sexy and rough-let the fight begin!

Fight Club (Hardback or Cased Book)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 21.09 $Chuck Palahniuk's startling and outrageous debut novel, basis of the hit movie starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton.THE FIRST RULE about fight club is you don't talk about fight club.Every weekend, in the basements and parking lots of bars across the country, young men with whitecollar jobs and failed lives take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded just as long as they have to. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything. Fight club is the invention of Tyler Durden, projectionist, waiter, and dark, anarchic genius, and it's only the beginning of his plans for violent revenge on an empty consumer-culture world.

Feminist Fight Club: An Office Survival Manual for a Sexist Workplace
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 31.66 $It was a fight club—but without the fighting and without the men. Every month, the women would huddle in a friend’s apartment to share sexist job frustrations and trade tips on how best to tackle them. Once upon a time, you might have called it a consciousness-raising group. But the problems of today’s working world are more subtle, less pronounced, harder to identify—and harder to prove—than those of our foremothers. These women weren’t just there to vent. They needed battle tactics. And so the Feminist Fight Club was born.In Feminist Fight Club, acclaimed journalist Jessica Bennett blends the personal stories of her real-life fight club with research, statistics, and no-bullsh*t advice for how to combat today’s sexism (and come out the other side). Part manual, part manifesto, Bennett offers a new vocabulary for the sexist archetypes women encounter every day—such as the Manterrupter, who talks over female colleagues in meetings; or the Bropropriator, who appropriates their ideas—as well as the self-sabotaging behavior women sometimes exhibit themselves. With original illustrations and fascinating historical research as well as a straightforward assessment of the gender gap that continues to plague the workforce, Feminist Fight Club offers practical strategies, stealthy hacks, and much-needed camaraderie for women battling their way through the modern workplace.

Marxist Film Theory and Fight Club
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 23.29 $Anna Kornbluh provides an overview of Marxist approaches to film, with particular attention to three central concepts in Marxist theory in general that have special bearing on film: “the mode of production,” “ideology,” and “mediation.” In explaining how these concepts operate and how they have been used and misused in film studies, the volume employs a case study to exemplify the practice of Marxist film theory.Fight Club is an exceptionally useful text with which to explore these three concepts because it so vividly and pedagogically engages with economic relations, ideological distortion, and opportunities for transformation. At the same time, it is a very typical film in terms of the conditions of its production, its marketing, and its popularity. Adapted from a novel by Chuck Palahniuk, the film is a contemporary classic that has lent itself to significant re-interpretation with every shift in the political economic landscape since its debut.Marxist Film Theory and Fight Club models a detailed cinematic interpretation that students can practice with other films, and furnishes a set of ideas about cinema and society that can be carried into other kinds of study, giving students tools for analyzing culture broadly defined.

Pursuit of Happiness: A Left Bank Book [Fight Club] [first edition]
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 90.00 $Pursuit of Happiness turned out to be a fantastic theme for this Left Bank Book, number eight in the series. From Linny Stovall's foreword: "I became intrigued by the idea of happiness for a Lef Bank theme after reading Steve Erickson's Arcd'X, a novel that time-travels with a Jeffersonian character and explores America's ambivalence about happiness. While we thrive on developing ideologies that aspire to the common good, we stalk hedonist dreams And yet, "the pursuit of happiness," so long a home in our history, originates from the most noble of instincts--revolt against tyranny. A startling declaration, a radical promise of entitlement to all citizens (or nearly all). "But what does it mean? What constitutes happiness? And how do we pursue it?" Now for a story about this book. When we decided on a theme for a new book in the series, we first sought out several well-known authors to provide cornerstones. Then, we put out a general call to writers and artists for submissions. Third, our interns stripped the authors' names from their pieces so that we would read them without prejudice. In truth, we often recognized the distinctive voices of some writers, even without names attached, and we got good at grouping submissions by those writers who studied with certain masters or in certain writing programs. Such was the case with aspiring writers who participated in the Dangerous Writing groups lead by wonderful author Tom Spanbauer (Man Who Fell in Love with the Moon). It helped, of course, that Tom's students were always hitting us hard with submissions. One of Spanbauer's students worked for Blue Heron. As noted in an earlier review/publisher's note, this person introduced us to another Spanbauer acolyte, Chuck Palahniuk, who she invited to dinner at our house. Later, reading it without his name on it, we acquired his story Fight Club and gave him his first publication.
